6thJuly, 2008 : How and When to Use Natural Lubricants

Natural lubricants are great for anyone because they simulate the body’s own lubricating fluids. So, whether you are someone whose body is constantly self lubricating or you dry up very easily, personal natural lubricants are for you. The main purpose of natural lubricants is to enhance the overall pleasure during any type of sexual activity by reducing the friction, increasing motion and ultimately limiting any possible damage to the sensitive genital tissue.

There is a very large selection of different types of natural lubricants on the market today, and companies are adding to this everyday. They vary in texture, smell, color, taste and flavor and come in three different types of bases: water, silicone, and oil. The type of base you choose should be directly related to what type of contraception you use during sexual intercourse. If you and your partner use condoms, then you only want to go with a water or silicone based brand because oil ones destroy the latex that condoms are made of.

There are many different ways to use a personal natural lubricant, so it really depends on what type of sensation you are interested in having. Some people like to put some lube inside the condom because it makes wearing the condom much more comfortable. If this is the method you choose then you should put a little bit of lube inside the tip of the condom, but be sure not to put it on the penis as well; this will make it more likely for the condom to slip off during intercourse because it will cause too much natural lubrication. Some other places that couples like to apply natural lubricants are to the outside of the condom, all around the clitoris and surrounding areas, or on the outside of the vagina, anus or penis. The anal area is a very common place to use a personal lubricant because it is one area of the body that does not self lubricate, unlike the penis and vagina. Anal sex is becoming increasingly popular these days, but many people are not educated on how to be safe about it. You and your partner must be very careful when engaging in anal sex because the anus and rectum are very sensitive and delicate parts of the body. They are very easily torn during rough sexual activity and they become very susceptible to infection. So, some type of personal lubricant is imperative if you are going to have any type of anal penetration with your partner.

Natural lubricants are available in many different variations, so take your time and find the one that works best for you, your partner, and most importantly your body.
